A 29-year-old Port Byron man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly molesting two children and sexually abusing a dog, police said.
According to Det. Jeff Mead, of the Auburn Police Department, police arrested Stephan D. Lane, of 8089 Barnes Road, on Wednesday after an investigation revealed the defendant repeatedly sexually abused two children under the age of 11.
The investigation started when an adult related to the victims approached police and explained the children said Lane, formerly of Auburn, was sexually abusing them.
Mead said Lane, who reportedly was acquainted with the children's family and had the opportunity to abuse the children, allegedly had sexual contact with one child multiple times at an Auburn home between August and October.
Mead said Lane also allegedly sexually abused a second child by having sexual contact with a dog in front of the child, masturbating in front of the child and showing "adult sexual aids" to the child. The second child was allegedly abused at an Auburn home on multiple occasions between August and September.
Cayuga County Child Protective Services worked with police during the investigation. Mead said the children are now safe.
Lane was charged with first-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree sexual abuse, both violent felonies. He was also charged with sexual misconduct and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors.
Mead said Lane was arraigned in Auburn City Court and remanded into the custody of the Cayuga County Jail without bail.
