A town court clerk in Seneca County stole nearly $167,000 over a seven-year period, the state police said in a news release announcing her arrest Thursday.
Julie Dougherty, 44, of Varick, has been charged with second-degree grand larceny. She was arraigned in Tyre town court and released on her own recognizance.
The charge stems from a six-month investigation conducted by the state police, Seneca County District Attorney's office and the state Unified Court System's internal audit services unit.
Dougherty, who was the Varick town court clerk, allegedly stole $166,999 from the court over a seven-year period.
The state police said Dougherty's case has been divested to Seneca County Court at the request of her attorney.
The investigation is continuing.
