The town of Sennett has now joined Fleming, Owasco and Skaneateles in speaking out against the proposed changes to Interstate 81.

The town board unanimously passed a resolution during a May 31 meeting, supporting the "need to maintain the existing alignment of Interstate 81 through Syracuse."

The resolution argues that the proposed changes to I-81, which would alter the highway and turn it into a boulevard, could potentially alter the flow of heavy commercial traffic and increase truck traffic through the town of Sennett, causing safety issues and negatively impacting the residents' quality of life.

The town board has asked that the New York State Department of Transportation design an alternative solution that will not have negative impacts on the smaller, outlying communities effected by the project.

The town of Sennett has also appointed a representative who will attend any meeting in Cayuga County regarding the I-81 rerouting to lobby against it.
