A new commander will take over the 102nd Military Police Battalion based in Auburn on Feb. 24.

Lt. Joseph Valentino, a Skaneateles native and Iraq war veteran, will take over as commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment of the 102nd Military Police Battalion at the New York Army National Guard Readiness Center in Auburn.

Valentino will succeed Captain Karl Berg, who has served as commander since 2009. He is moving on to serve as the assistant operations officer for the 153rd Troop Command headquartered in Buffalo.
