State police investigators released more details about a prostitution sting that saw 11 people arrested in Weedsport last week.

Troopers said state police investigators worked with Cayuga County Sheriff's Office deputies and the FBI to carry out the operation in the village June 9. The initiative resulted in state police arresting 11 Onondaga County residents on prostitution-related charges.

One Liverpool man, 34-year-old Jason M. Stein, was charged with first-degree attempted rape and second-degree attempted patronizing a person for prostitution, both felonies. State police have accused him of soliciting sex with a subject under 13 years of age in exchange for money.

However, there was no one under the age of 13 involved in the operation, said state police Senior Investigator Dave Stebbins.

"It was a detail targeting prostitutes and Johns, as well as people that would prey on young children," Stebbins said. "We set it up in Weedsport."

Stein was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail on $5,000 cash bail, $10,000 bond, while the other 10 defendants were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Weedsport Court. There are no additional arrests pending, Stebbins said.

"There is no issue with prostitution in Weedsport. These people were drawn from outside the area as a result of this investigation," Stebbins said.
