In honor of its founder's 50th birthday and the 25th anniversary of its start as a performing arts organization, New York Institute of Dance & Education is holding a celebration of Auburn native Sean McLeod.

The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn. A cocktail hour will be followed by a lineup of guest speakers that includes state Sen. Michael Nozzolio, Auburn Mayor Michael Quill and state Assemblyman Gary Finch. There will also be performances and words from colleagues, friends and family.

The event's organizers are asking that attendees make a donation to McLeod's nonprofit Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre "to help Sean continue his mission of empowering minorities, women and girls, fortifying boys and men, and celebrating the unity of all people!" a press release said.

Event sponsors include The Hilton Garden Inn, Sam Giacona & Giacona Law P.C., Michael Pierce & family, Jim and Rita Loperfido, Barb and Deb’s Gourmet Cupcakes, the Bartolotta family, the Anagnostopoulos family and additional anonymous contributors.
