Two Auburn men were arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly trying to break into Hightops, a shop on State Street in Auburn that sells shoes and smoking accessories.

Jason J. McPhearson Sr., 20, of 80 Owasco St., Auburn, was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, second-degree obstruction of government administration, resisting arrest and petit larceny, according to the Auburn Police Department.

Sammy J. Sikes, 21, of 7 Burt Ave., upper apartment, Auburn, was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, obstruction of government administration and resisting arrest.

According to the APD, a complaint was called in around midnight about two men banging on the front window of the shop. Officers drove by Hightops and saw the two men allegedly smashing in the front windows of the shop and trying to get into the building.

When police approached, the two men allegedly fled on foot and were caught in the area shortly afterward, according to police.
