AUBURN — Bertha Lawton Schavemaker on Feb. 9, 2018 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband and animals, Maggy and Baby.
Bertha was a home health aide and waitress at Hunter’s Diner for many years. She shared most of her time with her family and animals.
Bertha is survived by her husband, Simon “John” Schavemaker; her children, Tammy Lawton, Louis (Tracy) Akins, Amanda (Rick) Akins, Stanley (Elizabeth) Brew Jr., Patrick Brewer, Danielle (Charles) Waters, Cheryl (Tom) Poomon, Susan Derr, Joanne (Jim) Reasoner, and John (Crystal) Schavemaker. Bertha also left behind her 26 grandchildren, Lillian, Ryan, Jacob, and Adam Akins, Luke Cross, Erica, Stanley III, George, Jaden, Cameron, and Shyanne Brewer, Beccalynn Brewer, Elizabeth Lynn, Timmy, and Jenna Westcott, Tommy, Ginger, Adelia, Kaylee, and Nicole Poomon, Megan Derr, Christopher and Kaitlynn Reasonber, Corissa, Tyler (Amy), and Alley Schavemaker. She also had nine great-grandchildren, Aryahna, Elaina, Sydney, Kedzie, Cole, and Carter, Vaughen, Maelyn, and Auroa. Bertha also left behind her siblings, David Lawton, Virginia Brown, Bruce Brown, Tina Randell, Jr. Lawton, and Tommy White.
Bertha was predeceased by her parents; one grandchild, Harley Brewer; three dogs, Bennie, Jake, and Maggie.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 at Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn, with a funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the spring in Fayette Rural Cemetery.
