FLEMING | Christine J. Cibella, 80, of Sand Beach Drive, Fleming, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, Aug. 10, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse after a brief illness.

She was born in Auburn, the daughter of the late Ross and Antoinette Calarco Cibella and had been a life resident. “Chris,” as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was a West High School graduate, class of 1952. She was a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church where she was very active for many years in their choir and Sacred Heart Society.

In her youth, Chris enjoyed playing several sports and especially loved to bowl. She was a past secretary for many years in the different bowling leagues in which she was involved.

Christine had been employed for more than 29 years at the former Dunn & McCarthy Shoe Company and also worked at Northrup Supply and Hares and Weeks. Her favorite job for many years was working part-time for her family owned Angelo’s Pizza.

She also enjoyed to walk everywhere with her family and friends. Chris’s most astonishing talent was her ability to remember everybody’s birthday and anniversary. Even though Chris never had any children, she was like a mother to many. She always put others first and never questioned helping out someone in need. “A true angel”!! Her kind, generous, loving heart will never be forgotten and will be truly missed by all!

She is survived by her loving family, niece, Annette (Earl) Giovannetti Phillips; nephew, Dominic Giovannetti; niece, Michele (David) DeRegis; nephew, Michael R. Rosa; niece, Mary Beth (Steven) Weaver; several great-nieces and great-nephews, Meaghan, Paul Joseph Giovannetti, Jacquelynne, Matthew, Anthony DeRegis, Zachary, Emily, and Aiden Weaver; cousins, Virginia Harris, Arlene (Robert) Ryan, Ronald Masterson, and Carolyn Mincolla, as well as many other great-great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Christine was predeceased by two beloved sisters, Theresa Rosa and Rachel Giovannetti.

Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Holy Feast of the Assumption in St. Francis of Assisi Church for Christine’s Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. There are no public calling hours as were Christine’s wishes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Francis Church Renovation Fund, c/o SS. Mary and Martha Church, 299 Clark Street, Auburn, NY 13021. Arrangements are by Pettigrass Funeral Home of Auburn.
