AUBURN — Francis “Shorty” Halcomb, 90, of Walker Road, Auburn, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 after a brief illness. Born Jan. 27, 1927 in Montour Falls, Francis left high school to enlist in the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country with the 82nd Airborne Division during WWII.
He retired from General Crushed Stone Company as a supervisor following 42 years of employment. He was a member of the VFW and the SK Post.
Francis is survived by his son, William (Lori) Halcomb Sr.; daughter, Christine (Vernon) Stephens; four grandchildren, William (Kelly) Halcomb Jr., Nicole Halcomb, Brittany Stephens and Ashley Stephens; and three great-grand children, Colin, Keegan and Reid Halcomb.
Mr. Halcomb was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Farrelly Halcomb, on Nov. 12, 2006.
Friends are invited to call on the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn. Funeral services will be held privately for the family. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fleming.
