AUBURN | Frank L. Barrera, 93, of 9 Amherst Ave., Auburn, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Auburn Community Hospital.
Frank was born in Auburn, the son of the late, John and Angelina Savarese Barrera. He was a World War II Army veteran and was the first drafted for the war from Auburn. He was a communicant of St. Francis Church and co-owned PBJ on the Corner with his wife, Sheila. He was an avid golfer and skeet shooter and a member of the Cayuga County Sportsmen Club. Frank was known and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Posa Barrera; his two children, John K. Barrera, Sr. and Paula VanBuskirk and her fiancé, Frank Bertonica, all of Auburn; a sister, Rose Francis, of Seneca Falls; four grandchildren, Heidi VanBuskirk, Nina, Lyla and John Barrera, Jr. and nieces and nephews, Emily Woziak, John, Mike and Fran Francis, Jr. Frank was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Micucci and Margaret Barrera.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at St. Francis Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
