MORAVIA | Kevin J. Howe, 59, of Moravia, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013.

Mr. Howe was born April 14, 1954 in Cortland, a son of the late Francis and Beverly (Ryan) Howe, and was a graduate of Dryden Central School.

Kevin was employed as an equipment operator for the Cayuga County Highway Department for the past 18 years. He had previously been a truck driver for ALNYE of Moravia, and had worked for the Village of Moravia. He was a member of both the Moravia and Auburn VFW Posts, and was a member of the Groton American Legion Post 800 War Dads. Kevin enjoyed boating, camping, and hunting, and was an avid motorcycle rider. He also enjoyed riding 3 and 4 wheelers with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Farnham) Howe; four children, Chastity Nixon (David), of Etna, Geoffrey "Punk" Howe, of Auburn, Heather "Hedi" Howe, of Auburn, and Justin Howe, of Freeville; stepsons, Daniel (Kerri) Steger, of Moravia, and Patrick (Jessica) Steger, of Virginia; nine grandchildren, Kirsten and Laken Greenwood, Brooke, Brianna, and Bailey Steger, Hunter and Jaden Steger, Connor Howe and Tyler Nixon; two brothers, Gary (Deb) Howe, of Groton, and Skip (Joan) Howe, of Texas; a sister, Patty (Bob) Gallow, of Cincinnatus; an aunt, Marj Amidon, of Cortland, and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a stepson, Joseph Steger in November 2006.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Ave., Groton, with the Rev. Richard Shatzel officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Clifford Galbraith VFW Post 7127, Grove St., Moravia, NY 13118.
