On 10/26/17, Auburn lost another one of its finest, John Gregory Shwaryk. J. Greg served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his tour of duty, he returned to Auburn and joined the Auburn Police Department in May 1972. I had the privilege to attend the police academy and work my entire career at the APD with J. Greg. He was an asset to the city of Auburn and its police department. J. Greg was well-known and respected by everyone that met and knew him.
I also want to commend Police Chief Shawn Butler, and the active and retired members of the police department for their display of honor and respect for J. Greg at the funeral home, church and cemetery. Also to Fire Chief Joseph Morabito and his department for assisting with traffic control. The procession from the church to the cemetery was one of the best-coordinated I have ever seen. It was a send off that would have impressed and humbled J.Greg as he was a fan for pomp and circumstance. So here’s to you, J. Greg. May you Rest In Peace until we meet again.
You will be missed by all who knew you.
