SYRACUSE | The Syracuse Chiefs are quickly becoming a very interesting club.

With Zach Duke coming in to score an insurance run on the bases and Henry Rodriguez making the save interesting the Chiefs moved within a game of .500 and swept away the first place Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-1, on Thursday at Alliance Bank Stadium.

John Lannan held the top scoring team in the International League to one run (a solo homer by Tony Thomas) on six hits over six innings while walking two and striking out three. He lowered his ERA to 4.66. He is 6-6 on the season.

Pat Lehman and Atahualpa Severino held the line before Rodriguez came in and walked a pair before going to 3-2 on the next batter before he picked up his first save in Syracuse.

Brett Carroll is up to 10 games in a row with a hit, while Carlos Rivero also has a 10-game streak. Xavier Paul got the night off.

Carroll and Rivero both drove in runs.

Jim Negrych plated Duke with an eighth inning sacrifice fly.
