At the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Invitational, the Port Byron/Union Springs cross country team had five runners — three boys and two girls — finish in the top 20.

Michael Schumacher was the 10th finisher (17:52) on the boys side, while Ben York placed 17th (18:11) and Braden York was 18th (18:14). The Panthers finished fourth in their race and 10th overall.

For the girls, Hannah Yorkey ranked 16th (21:48) and Haley Yorkey was 19th (22:18) as the girls placed seventh in their race and 24th overall.

BOYS SOCCER

Union Springs/Port Byron 4, Jordan-Elbridge 0: The Wolves shut out the Eagles, led by Seth Gilmore's 11 saves, to claim the Jim Cufari Kickoff Classic.

Over the weekend, Gilmore combined to make 17 saves and allowed one goal.

Scott Compson also finished up a strong weekend with a pair of goals. Nick Audioun and Michael Cabal were the Wolves' other scorers.

Union Springs/Port Byron travels to Dryden on Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

West Genesee 5, Auburn 2: Lindsay Jarman won in third singles 6-0, 6-2, and Daisy Townsend and Grace Baranick teamed up to take third doubles 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Auburn falls to 5-1 overall, but remains undefeated in league play.

BOYS SOCCER

Union Springs/Port Byron 5, Moravia 1: Scott Compson recorded a hat trick to lead the Wolves to a win in the opener of the Jim Cufari Kickoff Classic.

Eric Ryan and Jeff Day also scored for Union Springs/Port Byron, while goalie Seth Gilmore was credited with six saves.

Justin Garrow recorded the lone goal for Moravia.
