Weedsport boys swimmer Macauley Kolonko qualified for the finals in two events on Friday at the 2018 New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys swimming championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island.

Kolonko, a senior, finished 18th in the 500 yard freestyle qualifier with a time of 4:47.79. The top qualifier finished in 4:29.85.

He also placed 19th in the 200 yard freestyle qualifier with a time of 1:44.60. The top qualifier finished in 1:39.65.

Kolonko, who is competing in his fourth state championship meet, will race in the finals on Saturday.

Southern Cayuga's Joey Angotti, a sophomore, competed in his first state championships. In the 100 yard butterfly, he finished 63rd with a time of 54.77.

In the 100 yard freestyle, Angotti finished 55th with a time of 50.09. Angotti's times weren't fast enough to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
