James Corden Madonna

James Corden and Madonna sing during a Carpool Karaoke segment on "The Late Late Show."

It was a big year for James Corden and "The Late Late Show" on CBS. Some of his success can be attributed to Carpool Karaoke, a popular segment on the show and arguably the hottest segment in late night television.

While Carpool Karaoke first debuted in 2015, the segment had its best year in 2016. From Adele and Bruno Mars to first lady Michelle Obama and Madonna, "The Late Late Show" aired 16 Carpool Karaoke trips in 2016. There were a few mediocre clips, but most were hits.

Here are the 10 best Carpool Karaoke guests of 2016:

(1) Adele

The "Hello" singer joined Corden in London for a drive around the city and some in-car singing. From beginning to end, it was a blast. Adele treated viewers to some of her own songs and then rapped Nicki Minaj's "Monster."

(2) Broadway (Lin-Manuel Miranda, Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jane Krakowski)

This Carpool Karaoke was taped in New York City and begins with Corden and Miranda singing hit songs from "Hamilton." The action picks up when McDonald, Ferguson and Krakowski get in the vehicle. They close the segment with "One Day More," a song from Les Miserables. If it wasn't for Adele's fun ride, the Broadway segment would be the top Carpool Karaoke of 2016.

(3) First lady Michelle Obama

Even before the first lady got in the vehicle, it was hilarious seeing Corden roll onto the White House grounds. Once Michelle Obama was inside, they belted out Stevie Wonder and Missy Elliott made a cameo. This must have been fun for the participants. It certainly was fun for viewers.

(4) Bruno Mars

This is the most recent Carpool Karaoke, and it was fun! Bruno brought his best hits and retold the story of how he got in the music business. There's several fun moments mixed in.

(5) Jennifer Lopez

Another Carpool Karaoke with a star performing some of their best songs. The highlight of this video, though, wasn't a song. It was a text message. Corden "borrowed" J-Lo's phone and fired off a hilarious text to Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio responded with an equally funny message. J-Lo was a good sport about it all.

(6) Madonna

Madonna brought her new and old songs to this Carpool Karaoke segment. She also shared a personal story about Michael Jackson and even critiqued Corden's apparel. Another fun segment.

(7) Gwen Stefani (with cameos by George Clooney and Julia Roberts)

Stefani mixed in some of her solo hits and songs from her No Doubt days. Later in the video, Corden and Stefani are joined by George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Clooney and Roberts took the video to another level.

(8) Red Hot Chili Peppers

This video featured the band performing some of their hit songs and, yes, front yard wrestling. Corden got taken down by Anthony Kiedis in a random Los Angeles-area yard. This was one of the better in-car interviews, too. There was some good information revealed during this Carpool Karaoke.

(9) Lady Gaga

Gaga performed songs from her new album, "Joanne," and told Corden about recently getting her driver's license. She even takes the wheel at a point in the video. That was a scary experience for Corden. She also brought back some of her hit songs in this clip.

(10) Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas

It was tough putting this one at No. 10. It's hard ordering all of these. Lovato and Jonas were great guests. Another great in-car interview and some good songs mixed in. The street performance near the conclusion of the clip was one of the best Carpool Karaoke moments of 2016.
