Ursula Rozum

Green Party candidate Ursula Rozum is challenging U.S. Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle, R-Onondaga Hill, in the 24th Congressional District race. Democratic candidate Dan Maffei is also running.

Syracuse radio host Bob Lonsberry believes three's a crowd in the 24th Congressional District race.

In his column Friday, Lonsberry called on Green Party candidate Ursula Rozum to bow out of the race. And he didn't pull any punches.

"Ann Marie Buerkle is a bona fide conservative. Dan Maffei is a bona fide liberal. The people have a choice, a clear choice. Just as the vote for president is a clear philosophical crossroads, so, too, is the vote for Congress," Lonsberry wrote.

"Or at least it should be. But Ursula the Green Party Chick stands to ruin that."

By my count, Lonsberry used "Ursula the Green Party Chick" seven times in his column. (It was also the title of the column.)

Lonsberry doesn't hide the fact that he supports Buerkle. He also makes it clear that he doesn't like Maffei. He called Maffei "useless" in his column.

This isn't the first time this week I have read an op-ed essentially calling Rozum a spoiler in the 24th Congressional District race. A letter on The Citizen's Opinion page Monday said a vote for Rozum helps Buerkle.

Rozum might not win the NY-24 race, but she will be a factor. The Siena poll released last week found seven percent of voters surveyed said they would vote for Rozum.
