There are differing views on how the 2017 installment of the Buffalo Bills will perform this season.

The Bills are in it to win it! The Bills are tanking!

There is only way to find out which theory is true: play the games.

The Bills have a tough schedule. Half the team's schedule is against the AFC West and NFC South — two of the toughest divisions in the NFL. While they're fortunate to have two games against the New York Jets, an AFC East rival, they close the season with four of their last five games against the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.

Here is how the Buffalo Bills will fare in 2017:

Week 1

Sunday, Sept. 10 - 1 p.m. vs. New York Jets

Analysis: If there's a team in a worse position than the Bills, it's the Jets. This is a team that doesn't have a clear answer at quarterback and has question marks on both sides of the ball. The Bills should win this one, even if it's ugly.

Score: Bills 23, Jets 10

Week 2

Sunday, Sept. 17 - 1 p.m. at Carolina Panthers

Analysis: This is an early test for head coach Sean McDermott. He will be returning to coach against his former team. He was the defensive coordinator for the Panthers, so he should have some inside information on the team. But on paper, the Panthers are the better team.

Score: Panthers 27, Bills 17

Week 3

Sunday, Sept. 24 - 1 p.m. vs. Denver Broncos

Analysis: The Broncos have a shaky quarterback situation, but it's tough to bet against that defense. The Bills' offense could have a difficult time moving the ball against Von Miller and the Broncos.

Score: Broncos 20, Bills 13

Week 4

Sunday, Oct. 1 - 1 p.m. at Atlanta Falcons

Analysis: The Super Bowl runner-up Falcons will be a tough team to beat again this year. The Bills defense should be better, but they'll have a tough test against the Falcons. The Falcons have a lot of weapons to watch.

Score: Falcons 34, Bills 23

Week 5

Sunday, Oct. 8 - 1 p.m. at Cincinnati Bengals

Analysis: The Bengals are an improved team. They added running back Joe Mixon in the draft and the defense should be stout again.

Score: Bengals 24, Bills 17

Week 6

Week 7

Sunday, Oct. 22 - 1 p.m. vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Analysis: This is one of those tough games the Bills have on their schedule this year. The Buccaneers have a good young team and even though they've had struggles in the preseason, they should be in top form by the time this game rolls around.

Score: Buccaneers 31, Bills 23

Week 8

Sunday, Oct. 29 - 1 p.m. vs. Oakland Raiders

Analysis: The Raiders should win this game. Oakland is one of the best teams in the NFL. It could get ugly in Orchard Park.

Score: Raiders 41, Bills 20

Week 9

Thursday, Nov. 2 - 8:25 p.m. at New York Jets

Analysis: The Bills could eight weeks without a win before they head to the Meadowlands. Even on the road, they should be favorites against the lowly Jets.

Score: Bills 34, Jets 13

Week 10

Sunday, Nov. 12 - 1 p.m. vs. New Orleans Saints

Analysis: There will be surprises in the Bills' 2017 season, and this could be one of them. The Saints don't always play well away from the Superdome. They might be the better team, but the Bills should pick up a victory here.

Score: Bills 30, Saints 27

Week 11

Sunday, Nov. 19 - 4:05 p.m. at Los Angeles Chargers

Analysis: The first of two tough AFC West matchups. The Chargers have flaws, but the offense is dynamic and Joey Bosa gives them a pass rushing extraordinaire on the defensive side of the ball. It could be close, but the Chargers should win.

Score: Chargers 27, Bills 14

Week 12

Sunday, Nov. 26 - 1 p.m. at Kansas City Chiefs

Analysis: The Chiefs were a playoff team last year and should return to the playoffs this season. The Chiefs have some holes on offense, but they're the better team. This will be a tough game for the Bills.

Score: Chiefs 23, Bills 10

Week 13

Sunday, Dec. 3 - 1 p.m. vs. New England Patriots

Analysis: The Bills will get the Patriots at the worst time. The Patriots are usually in top form when December rolls around. And given how the Bills' season is shaping up, this game won't be close.

Score: Patriots 38, Bills 13

Week 14

Sunday, Dec. 10 - 1 p.m. vs. Indianapolis Colts

Analysis: The Colts are an unknown. Will Andrew Luck be healthy? Will this team be better than they were last year? Much like the Saints game, this is a game the Bills could win. It's a home game against a so-so team. The Bills could steal it.

Score: Bills 27, Colts 24

Week 15

Sunday, Dec. 17 - 1 p.m. vs. Miami Dolphins

Analysis: The Bills close with two of their last three games against the Miami Dolphins, an AFC East rival. The Dolphins are looking good in preseason, but these teams are familiar with each other. The Bills played well against the Dolphins in both games last year before losing late. They should be able to take one of these games against the Dolphins.

Score: Bills 24, Dolphins 20

Week 16

Sunday, Dec. 24 - 1 p.m. at New England Patriots

Analysis: The Bills have gotten lucky in Foxboro in recent years, but that luck will run out this year.

Score: Patriots 37, Bills 14

Week 17

Sunday, Dec. 31 - 1 p.m. at Miami Dolphins

Analysis: This game will likely mean more for the Dolphins than the Bills. The Dolphins could be in playoff contention and may need to win this game to get in. There's no way they're losing this game if they are in that situation.

Score: Dolphins 27, Bills 20

BILLS 2017 RECORD: 5-11
