The streak continues.
Wegmans Food Markets has been named to Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list for the 18th consecutive year. The magazine ranks Wegmans seventh on the list, giving the supermarket chain the highest rating among retailers.
"I've said it many times, but it bears repeating. Our employees make Wegmans a place where customers feel happy and cared about, and my job is to make sure our employees feel that way, too," Wegmans CEO Danny Wegman said.
Wegmans is a member of an exclusive group. Only 12 companies have been on Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list every year since it launched in 1998.
"Employees of (the) family-owned supermarket chain wear name tags that bear the number of years of 'incredible service' they have accumulated," Fortune wrote about Wegmans. "Hundreds of them visit the company's own 50-acre organic farm each year. Consumer Reports rates Wegmans as the best grocery store in America."
The company will celebrate the recognition from Fortune on Saturday. According to a news release, cake will be served at every Wegmans store. The time of the celebration will be posted in the front of each store.
Wegmans, which was founded in 1916, operates 85 stores in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The company has several stores in central New York, including one in Auburn.
The Fortune "100 Best Companies to Work For" issue will go on sale Monday.
