Former President George W. Bush touches the casket of his father, former President George H.W. Bush, at the state funeral Wednesday at the National Cathedral in Washington.

Flossie J. Corfield

AUBURN — Flossie J. Corfield, 92, of Genesee Garden Apartments, Auburn, passed away peacefully Dec. 1, 2018, at Auburn Community Hospital.

Born in Auburn, she was the daughter of the late William and Fannie Tanner Sherman. Flossie was very active and social right into her late years. She enjoyed crafts and traveling, casino trips with friends and entertaining and planning parties. She loved spending time with her family and all her friends at Genesee Garden Apartments. Flossie, along with her late husband, James, was a member of the Throop Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was the first woman to join the New York State Fire Police.

She is survived by her son, Dale Corfield; five grandchildren, James O’Connor, Jesse Corfield, Marissa Corfield, Michelle Corfield, and Gordon Corfield; three great-grandchildren, James D. O’Connor II, Jasper E. O’Connor, and Julian Leader; four sisters-in-law, Joyce and Jean Sherman, June Vanamburg and Gloria Sissom; and by several nieces and nephews.

Flossie was predeceased by her loving husband, James R. Corfield, in 2010; by her son, James Thomas “JT” Corfield; and by her five sisters and two brothers.

Family will greet friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Langham Funeral Home, 75 E. Genesee St., Auburn. Graveside prayers will be held at the convenience of the family in Throopsville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Throopsville Volunteer Fire Department, 7159 Beech Tree Road, Auburn, NY 13021.

Genevieve A. Herrling

CORTLAND — Genevieve A. Herrling, 56, of Cortland, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place.

Born in Auburn, she was raised in Union Springs until moving to Cortland in 1988. Genevieve earned her associate degree from CCC and was employed as an administrative assistant with SUNY Cortland for more than 25 years. An avid reader, she also enjoyed music and her love for the Bee Gees was second to none. Genevieve had tremendous love for cats, jewelry, nature, and playing cards.

Genevieve was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Miriam (Hickey) Herrling.

Surviving are her sister, Marie Herrling, of Camillus; nephew, Kevin Carr, of Camillus; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 West Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Union Springs.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Syracuse Home for their loving care and compassion given to Genevieve.

Donald James Ross

AUBURN — Donald James Ross, 71, of 6034 Oakridge Road, Auburn, passed away Dec. 2, 2018, at Auburn Community Hospital.

Born in Auburn, he was the son of the late James and Charlotte Chapin Ross. Don was a 1966 East High School graduate, a 1970 graduate of Le Moyne College, and was a retired sales representative for Kraft Foods at the time of his death. Don loved the outdoors. He would spend hours at his land, “Richard Head Sports,” in Moravia, and took great pride in mowing and manicuring his own lawn. He also enjoyed hunting and his Corvette.

Surviving are his three daughters, Jessica (John) Friedel, Jeannette DeChick, and Jan (Mark) Barazcek; his twin brother, Ronald C. (Margaret) Ross; three grandchildren, Jack and Delaney DeChick, and Lorelei Friedel; and a nephew and niece, Jon F. and Joan H. Ross.

Friends are invited to visit the family from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Langham Funeral Home, LLC, with funeral services to follow at 12:30 p.m.
