The Citizen's 2021 Halloween guide: Murder mysteries, movies and more

The COVID-19 pandemic scared away most Halloween events in the Cayuga County area last year. But this year, they're back.

Here are all the costume parties, trick-or-treats and more we know are taking place in the area through Oct. 31:Β

πŸŽƒ Halloween Witch Hunt

WHAT: Hunt for 50 witch hats hidden throughout the museum using clues provided, record on entry form and submit it to be eligible for prize drawings. Prizes for everyone 12 and younger who turns in form.

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 1 through Oct. 31

πŸŽƒ 'Timewarp: A Macabre Museum Murder Mystery'

WHAT: A mystery set in 1921 about an eccentric inventor who has accidentally ripped a hole in the space-time continuum, resulting in each room in his home existing in a different decade of the 20th century. Guests are invited to a party at his home, only to discover he is dead. They are then tasked with solving his murder, who is one of the guests. Includes hors d'oeuvres and two complimentary drinks. Coming in costume encouraged.

WHEN: 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30

COST: Tickets $75 per person, $70 if group includes a museum members; limit 10 players each night. Reservations and proof of COVID-19 vaccination or recent negative test required.

WHAT: Costumed guides lead tours around the museum and streets of Auburn with stories of Victorian funeral practices, spectral encounters from Seward family lore, true crime, local folklore and more, with new stories for 2021.

WHEN: 6 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. nightly Monday, Oct. 25, through Saturday, Oct. 30
