New Auburn band Ya'MaMa will kick off Founder's Day weekend with a Music on the Mall set Friday, Aug. 10.

The band consists of Kimberly Thompson on vocals, keys and percussion; Leon Miller on guitar and vocals; Ben Shearer on keyboards and background vocals; Dr. Rob Bridge on drums and percussion; P.J. Gibson on bass and background vocals; and David "Rasta" Clifford on background vocals.

With influences like Bob Marley, Living Colour, The Grateful Dead and Stevie Wonder, the band plays a mixture of old-school funk, reggae, jazz and groove.

The concert takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. on the State Street Mall, with Ya'MaMa playing under the band shell. As with all Music on the Mall shows, the open container beverage law is waived in the immediate area.

There is no cover charge. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved to Moondog's Lounge.
