Comic con culture will once again come to Auburn Saturday, June 15, when the Schweinfurth Art Center hosts its third annual Cosplay Invades Auburn! event.
Taking place from 1 to 7 p.m. at the center, 205 Genesee St., Auburn, the event will begin with a talk by cosplayer and costume contest judge Kate McKay on tips and tricks for improving presentation. Registration for a costume contest will take place from 2 to 5 p.m., and the contest will begin at 5:30 p.m. Meanwhile, there will be vendors that include Kim's Collectible Records and Comics and Morbid Morgue Creations, as well as food truck Galloway BBQ on site.
The contest will award prizes in the following age categories: 12 and younger, 13-18 (anime), 13-18 (comic), 13-18 (pop culture), adult (anime), adult (comic) and adult (pop culture). Judges will be McKay, Wizarding Weekend Ithaca organizer Darlynne Overbaugh and Syracuse University professor Chris Wildrick, who cosplays as Savage Opress, Two-Face and Molecule Man. The contest will include private prejudging, during which cosplayers will answer questions about their character and costume. Cosplayers are asked to bring a reference photo for their characters.
There is a $5 entry fee for the contest. Prizes will include two tickets to the Salt City Comic Con, which will take place July 6 and 7 at the Exposition Center on the New York State Fairgrounds.
