The Spafford Volunteer Fire Protection District has received a pet oxygen mask kit from Invisible Fence of the Finger Lakes, Midstate and Syracuse.
The donation is part of Invisible Fence Brand's Project Breathe program, which was established to equip every fire station in the U.S. and Canada with oxygen masks.
An estimated 40,000 to 150,000 pets die in fires every year, mostly due to smoke inhalation, according to Invisible Fence.
“We realize that humans are the first priority, but in many cases, pets can be saved if firefighters have the right equipment,” Invisible Fence Brand Director Ed Hoyt said in a news release.
