Excellus BlueCross BlueShield has announced that seven central New York nonprofits will receive up to $4,000 through its annual Community Health Awards.

The awards support programs that have clear goals of improving the health or health care of a specific population. Close to 30 nonprofits submitted applications for the awards.

Cayuga County-area recipients of the awards are:

• Cayuga Centers, to provide staff of the parent training program SafeCare with improved technology and program participants with household health and safety equipment.

• Cayuga Community Health Network, for a falls prevention and exercise program for residents ages 65 and older.

• Helio Health, to purchase equipment for its recovery center's fitness program.

• Rescue Mission, to purchase two automated external defibrillator units for facilities serving men, women in children who are homeless or otherwise in need in Auburn and Binghamton.
