Every Friday, The Citizen features a pet available for adoption from the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York.
This week, we spotlight Mocha.
Q: Who is your best friend?
A: Well, as you can probably tell, I am somewhat rotund. My shelter people have put me on a diet and I have lost nearly 4 pounds since being here. That is hugely successful. Eat your heart out, Weight Watchers. Anyway, I have made Bingo my BFF. You remember her, right? You interviewed her last week and she told you about her weight issues. We are now workout buddies and BFFs!
Q: Do you have a bucket list? If so, what's No. 1?
A: Please don't tell my shelter people, but I would love to go to Taco Bell and splurge on a 7 Layer Burrito. I checked on the calories and there are only 440 calories in this item. Perhaps Bingo and I could share one? You know, only half the calories!
Q: If you could meet someone famous, who would that be?
A: Speaking of Taco Bell, Bingo and I would love to have met Gidget! She was the cute Chihuahua girl who performed so nicely in the Taco Bell commercials. You remember her, right? "Yo quiero Taco Bell!"
Q: If you could visit any place in the world, where would that be?
A: That's easy! The closest Taco Bell I can find! LOL!
Q: Do you have an interesting fact to share?
A: I do! Well, it might be a legend. Do you know about the Aztec princess who, during the time the Aztecs ruled Mexico, kept over a thousand tiny dogs, and each dog had its own servant? These tiny dogs are believed to be the ancestors of today's Chihuahuas! After the dog died, the servant was killed so she could continue to serve the dog in the afterlife. Seems rather extreme to me, but this is legend and may be fact!
Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: For starters, I am pleasantly plump. But, that's only temporary. I am also a very sweet girl and I am smart. I am budget-minded and I don't eat much. Since I am small (and getting smaller) I am low-maintenance and don't take up much space. Best of all, I am a No. 1 lap dog and I would love to fill yours! To learn more about me, stop by my kennel to say hello!
Q: Do you have any advice for our good Citizen readers?
A: I do! Looks like spring has finally arrived! We shelter dogs like to remind our good Citizen readers about the requirement for appropriate shelter for your pets that spend any time out of doors. Also, plenty of fresh, cool water should be provided. If you have questions about what constitutes "appropriate shelter," please visit the shelter and we can provide a copy of the law. Your dogs will thank you and so will we. Love, Mocha and friends.
