Every Friday, The Citizen features a pet available for adoption from the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York.

This week, we spotlight Scout:

Q: Who is your best friend?

A: That was Carlos. He went home the other day. We came here at about the same time. I really miss him but just don't have the energy to find another BFF because as soon as I find one, they go home. I am very discouraged.

Q: If you could have a job, what would that be?

A: So, if I could have a job I would like to be a "sign dancer." Do you know what that is? Didn't think so because I just made it up! I want to hang out on the street in front of my shelter with a sign in my paws and dance around and try to get people to stop here. You know — like they do in front of the pizza joints. I think that would be a really fun job. I would even do it for free!

Q: What is your worst experience?

A:  I don't want to sound like a cry-baby, but here goes. I have a worst experience just about every day! I have been here for a long time — over a year. I see a lot of newbies getting adopted — every day! But I sit here and smile and act like I'm happy but I am really very sad. I want to know when my best experience is going to happen. I want to go home too.

Q: If you could visit any place in the world where would that be?

A: I think I might like to visit Katmandu, which is in Nepal. I like the name, of course, and one of my shelter people lived there for several years. She told me that it's a very interesting and mystical place but that I should plan on a short visit. The conditions of the cats there are not good so it will make me feel better about where I am right now. Well, maybe I'll visit Syracuse instead.

Q: Do you have an interesting fact to share?

A: Let's talk about cat diets! Did you know that cats are lactose intolerant? I know you mean well, but please stop giving us milk. It makes us sick. And, did you know that raw fish is also really bad for felines. Please restrict our diets to those foods approved specifically for us. That will make us happy and healthier.

Q: How would you describe yourself?

A: Right now the only way I can describe myself is sad. Give me some catnip! Make me laugh!

Q: Do you have any advice for our good Citizen readers?

A: I do! I want to remind our good Citizen readers that my shelter people are having an awesome cat adoption promotion in honor of Adopt a Shelter Cat Month! All of us felines that are 6 months or older are available for one-half of the normal adoption fee. Not sure if you realize what a deal that is because it takes a lot to care for all of us, make sure we are healthy, happy and well-fed — and of course, we get a lot of love. So I am a lucky participant in this special promotion. Please stop by to check me out. I will be very happy to see you. Love, Scout and friends.
