Arancia is available for adoption from the Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY.

Every Friday, The Citizen features a pet available for adoption from the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York.

This week, we spotlight Arancia.

Q: Who is your best friend?

A: So, I won't name names, but there is this person who saved my life. I mean, this person really, really saved me. I won't go into details, but my life was in jeopardy when my hero showed up and brought me here. This person is my BFF, forever and ever. Thank you BFF! You rock!

Q: What has been your worst experience?

A: Fearing for my life. This will not come as a surprise to you, but there are people out there who do bad things to animals. Some animals are lucky enough to either survive or get away. Many are not. If you see an animal in danger, please report it. Thank you for doing that.

Q: If you could describe yourself, what would you say?

A: Not that I am big-headed, but I am extraordinarily handsome! I am a laid-back guy and I am very friendly. I love people. I know, that's surprising since people were bad to me, but my faith in mankind has not been destroyed. And, I am a very pretty color, a beautiful orange. My shelter person named me "Arancia," which means "orange" in Italian. I like that. It's a good thing she didn't name me "Tangerine" or "Cantaloupe." I don't think I would have liked that.

Q: If you could visit any place in the world, where would that be?

A: Speaking of Italian, it would be nice to visit a very special place in Italy. That would be Assisi. Assisi is the Italian city where the patron saint of all animals lived and spread the word about kindness to animals. That is St. Francis of Assisi. I know he was looking out for me during some very dark days in my life.

Q: Do you have an interesting fact to share?

A: I do. I want to tell you about an orange tabby cat named Bob who saved his friend, James Bowen, from heroin addiction. Mr. Bowen wrote a book, "A Street Cat Named Bob," telling their story. Over a million copies of Bowen's book have been sold and it has been translated into over 30 languages. It was also released as a movie and won the honor of being Best British Film in 2017. Bob the orange tabby cat is one of my heroes!

Q: Please tell us what your dream family looks like.

A: Given what I have lived through, please understand that my criteria are very stringent. I need humans who are kind, gentle, patient and loving. I need a family that does not raise voices in anger. I need welcoming laps and arms. I need a family that will make me their priority — forever. I know there is a family out there with all of these traits. If you are reading this and need an awesome cat to complete your life, stop by to check me out.

Q: Do you have any advice for our good Citizen readers?

A: I do! I just want to give you a sneak peak at some of our upcoming fundraisers! We are planning a yard sale, a chicken barbecue and few other events over the summer. And planning is now in full swing for our world famous Hogs for Dogs ride happening on July 28! Look for your postcard reminder in the mail and watch our Facebook page for details as they develop. Thank you and love, Arancia and friends.
