Every Friday, The Citizen features a pet available for adoption from the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York.
This week, we spotlight Misty.
Q: Who is your best friend?
A: Well, this may come as a surprise to many around here. I have made Thelma my BFF. Why is this surprising? Well, Thelma is, shall we say, somewhat cranky at times. Don't get me wrong — she is a very nice girl but I am working on helping her improve her social skills. I have to be her BFF in order to do that. Once I get Thelma up and running I'll move on, but right now I have to concentrate on her. You might want to check her out next time you visit the shelter. That will make her feel really special.
Q: Do you have a job at the shelter?
A: In my condo room, I am the official bird watcher! I bounce between the windows with feeders, and announce new arrivals. Sometimes we even get squirrels. I can chirp and tweet just like the birds and my girls come running. We have a lot of fun with that.
Q: If you could meet someone famous, who would that be?
A: I would have loved to have met President Abraham Lincoln. It is a well-known fact that Mr. Lincoln was a "cat dude." He had at least four cats while he served in the White House and when his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, was asked if the president had any hobbies, her response was "yes — cats!" He was a cool man.
Q: If you could visit any place in the world, where would that be?
A: That's easy. I would like to travel to my new home and I would love to be there for the holidays. So if my family is out there and reading this, please come to get me — right now! Thank you!
Q: Do you have an interesting fact to share?
A: I do! And we felines are always amazed when we continue to uncover facts that absolutely prove our superiority. So here goes. Did you know that a cat's brain (mine!) is 90-percent similar to human's — more similar than to a dog's? And did you know that we cats have a longer-term memory than dogs, especially when we learn something by actually doing it rather than simply seeing. Unfortunately, some feel that cats have a lower social IQ (not me, of course!) than dogs, but we can solve more difficult cognitive problems when we feel like it. These are all facts, and yes, we are superior beings!
Q: Do you have any advice for our good Citizen readers?
A: I do! Did you know that our shelter is having a holiday raffle? Well, we are! It is a fundraiser and raffle tickets are $10 each, and are available at my shelter home. The prizes are $500, $300 and $200. The winners will be drawn on New Year's Eve. What a way to start 2019 if you are a winner. Please stop by to buy a ticket or two and help us into the new year! Oh yes, a raffle ticket would make a really great Christmas gift! Thank you and love, Misty and friends.
