Weedsport's Dennis Dornan finishes second in the 110-meter high hurdles qualifying heat during invitational action.

May 15, 1994

WEEDSPORT — Weedsport Central's Dennis Dornan ran in the third heat of the 110-meter high hurdles.

He was favored to win the event, but in his qualifying heat, his foot momentarily caught in the No. 6 hurdle and it was enough to leave him second in that heat. Worse yet, it cost him the time to qualify for finals later yesterday afternoon at the seventh annual Weedsport Invitational Track and Field Meet.

Dornan sat on a bench in the infield and waited for the announcement of the finalists. His name wasn't called.

"I don't think I want to see Coach (Gary) Lidster," he said.

It was easy to avoid Lidster, the Weedsport athletic director and track coach, yesterday. He was a man in motion, rushing from event to event in this popular high school event that attracted 16 schools, 600 athletes and 1,000 spectators.

Lidster said there were 16 girls and 14 boys' teams in the event.
