Candidate Herb London speaks to a gathering at the Holiday Inn.

Oct. 14, 1993

Gubernatorial hopeful Herb London showed up in Auburn to pitch his candidacy and brandish a handful of local supporters, including the chairman and majority leader of the county Legislature.

Legislature Chairman Herb Marshall Jr., R-Port Byron, and Republican Leader Sam DeRosa, R-Auburn, joined London at his press conference at the Holiday Inn.

After DeRosa introduced London with a ribald version of the 23rd Psalm that poked at Gov. Mario Cuomo, London called DeRosa the poet laureate of Cayuga County.

But it wasn't salty psalms that London came to hear. He is seeking the Republican, Conservative and Right to Life Party nominations for next year's race for the governor's mansion.
