Auburn quarterback Jim Baaden left the game after being sacked late in the second quarter against Cicero-North Syracuse.

Sept. 12, 1993

The Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars spoiled Auburn High School's football opener in the Carrier Dome last night, 33-14.

A crowd estimated at about 3,000 saw the final game of a triple-header in which the Maroons lost starting quarterback Jim Baaden with a leg injury late in the first half.

The game was much closer than the final score indicated, as the Maroons trailed only 20-14 early in the fourth period.

But Auburn proved to be its own worst enemy as it turned over the ball 10 times — five on interceptions and five on fumbles.

The Maroon ball carriers just couldn't hold on to the football, coughing it up an incredible nine times.
