The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office blocked off a section of Cedarvale Road in the town of Onondaga on Tuesday due to a motorcycle crash.

A motorcyclist from Auburn died as a result of a crash with a pickup truck on Tuesday, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office and the Howlett Hill Fire Department responded to the crash at about 4:37 p.m. on Cedarvale Road in the town of Onondaga involving 42-year-old Christopher Barnhart, of Auburn, and 21-year-old Kevin Doupe, of Marietta, who was driving the pickup truck, according to a press release issued Wednesday.

Barnhart was traveling north on a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle when he "failed to negotiate a curve" and struck the southbound Dodge Ram pickup, deputies investigating the crash reported. The crash was still under investigation Wednesday but speed is believed to have been a factor.

Barnhart was pronounced dead shortly after he was transported to Upstate University Hospital Community Campus, according to the sheriff's office. Doupe and his 20- and 1-year-old passengers were uninjured.
