The Auburn Police Department Local 195 has announced their support of Det. Lt. Brian Schenck in his campaign to become the next Cayuga County sheriff.
In a press release Tuesday, the Auburn police union highlighted Schenck's extensive law enforcement career and his "willingness to share his wisdom and insight" with the department.
In March, Schenck announced his intention to run for sheriff should Sheriff David Gould retire. Soon after, Gould confirmed he would retire in December after serving three terms as sheriff.
Schenck is running unopposed on the Republican line. He has received support from both the sheriff and police unions.
"Through the years, Brian has always been willing to assist our agency with his time, knowledge and experience," Local 195 President Joe Villano said. "In addition to our personal gratitude, we are also confident in Brian's ability to promote and uphold public safety. We know that the county would be in good hands under his watch, and we extend our support to him during this election season."
