Casey Park Elementary School in Auburn has a new principal.
Kelly Garback was approved to head up the school at an Auburn Enlarged City School District Board of Education meeting Tuesday, according to a news release from the school district.
Garback isn't unfamiliar with the job, though, as she had been acting as the interim principal since May 1. The former principal, Ronald Gorney, left to become the principal of the school on the Auburn campus of Cayuga Centers, after Phyllis Price retired from that position on April 30
Garback had also been serving as the district's director of early learning — a position she had held for three years — while doing double-duty as the interim principal, according to the release.
She is a 17-year veteran of the educational field, having been at the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District as an instructional specialist for English language arts and math and a elementary teacher before coming to Auburn.
Garback also has a master’s degree in special education and a certificate of advanced study in building and district administration.
“Over the past three years in Auburn, I have had the privilege of working closely with amazing administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families who have allowed me to play an integral role in virtually every aspect of our schools,” said Garback in the news release.
