It was an active day in the 25th Congressional District as more absentee ballots were counted.

Earlier today, a judge counted ballots from Monroe County that were previously challenged by representatives for incumbent Democrat Dan Maffei and Republican challenger Ann Marie Buerkle.

Once those ballots were counted, Buerkle netted 154 votes, while Maffei gained 59. The additional votes increased Buerkle's lead by 95 votes.

Also today, Onondaga County started counting ballots. With over 6,000 ballots to count, an official with the Onondaga County Board of Elections said they are hoping to be done counting on Friday.

The board did not have any numbers available, but the Maffei campaign sent an e-mail to members of the media with a count of votes through 4 p.m. today.

The Maffei campaign count, with 1,612 votes counted, showed Maffei with 897 votes and Buerkle with 715.

With the numbers from Onondaga, Buerkle's lead stands at 642 votes.

WAYNE COUNTY

After two days of reviewing ballots, Wayne County Board of Elections was ordered by a judge Wednesday to stop counting absentees and complete recanvassing.

Wayne County has about 1,300 ballots to review and count, but with a small staff, it takes the county longer to complete the process. They were not able to complete recanvassing last week and halted that process to begin counting absentees.

They expect to be completed with recanvassing on Friday and will be allowed to continue counting absentees on Saturday.
