The Cato-Meridian Central School District is starting preliminary work on a long-term plan for the district.

The district board of education held a special meeting Tuesday focused on developing long-range goals. District Superintendent Terry Ward said Friday the district is in the early stages of developing planning goals, as he said the district is continually striving to improve.

Ward said that while the district has had annual goals, its focus is shifting to goals around a five-year period. The district wants to get feedback from district employees, students and community members on how they feel about the school district, what they view as important and what they would like to see happen in the district and the community. Ward said the district is looking at surveys and focus groups to gain feedback.

By spring 2019, the district wants to bring in someone from outside the school district as a strategic planning facilitator. Ward said details regarding the role are still being developed.

"We always want to get better," Ward said.
