The Cayuga County Soil and Water District has started taking orders for its 48th annual spring tree and groundcover sale, as well as this spring's fish stocking sale.
For the tree sale, the district offers a number of types of New York-grown conifers, hardwoods, shrubs and groundcovers. According to a release from the district, the seedlings, transplants and other plants provide a low-cost way to prevent erosion, improve water quality, promote wildlife, and create noise and visual buffers that double as wind and snow breaks.
The fish stocking sale offers a variety of fish to be used in ponds, including rainbow trout, largemouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill, black crappie, channel catfish and minnows.
Additionally, grass carp will be available for purchase for landowners with appropriate state Department of Environmental Conservation permits.
For the tree sale, the district is taking orders through April 23, with a pickup date of May 3. For fish, orders will be taken until May 7, with a pickup date of May 13.
Order forms for both sales are available at cayugswcd.org, by calling (315) 252-4171 ext. 3, or by visiting the District's office on County House Road in Sennett.
