The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office will offer free inspections of child passenger safety seats this Friday as part of a wider safety training effort.
The only requirement for the inspections are that both the seat and child are present. Beyond that, the safety check is free and requires no appointment, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
The checks on Friday will be the final step in a training effort the sheriff's office began hosting on Wednesday, in which staff from numerous agencies such as the Community Action Program were instructed on the proper installation of child restraints in vehicles and child safety.
Participants in the training will demonstrate they've learned the proper skills through the car seat check on Friday, according to Sheriff Brian Schenck.
The free check is scheduled for 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office at 7445 County House Road, Sennett. Anyone with questions can contact Sue Alvarado at 315-253-1087.
