The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for areas of central New York and points south, including all of Cayuga County.
The watch comes as severe weather is moving across the state from the west. Central New York counties covered by the tornado watch include Seneca, Cayuga and Onondaga counties.
The watch runs through 5 a.m. Monday.
The NWS also issued the following hazardous weather outlook statement:
Rain will continue tonight, with thunderstorms also likely. The thunderstorms could be severe with damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and hail. Locally heavy rainfall is possible from this system, bringing a low chance for small stream and poor drainage flooding to the area. Main stem rivers will rise a few to several feet from this rainfall, but river flooding is not currently expected.
