Laura Avary Cooley of Atlanta, Georgia, and Bruce Jeffrey Gutelius, of Auburn, were married on May 29, 2022, at the Springside Inn in Fleming. The ceremony was performed by the bride’s father, the Rev. Pemberton Cooley III.
The bride’s parents are Pemberton and Lucy Cooley, of Atlanta. The groom’s parents are Stan and Chris Gutelius, of Auburn.
The groom’s niece, Jillian Gutelius, was a joy to behold as the flower girl, and the groom’s nephew, Patrick Gutelius, was cool under pressure as the ring bearer. Danielle Gutelius, another niece, provided musical entertainment.
A reception was held at the Springside Inn.
The bride and groom are medical epidemiologists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
Laura graduated with a B.A. in English from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, attended medical school at the University of Tennessee, and underwent training in infectious diseases and public health at Tulane in New Orleans.
Bruce graduated from Auburn High School in 1991 and attended Oberlin College, Albany Medical College and the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.
The couple’s exuberant beagle mix, Pete, was not in attendance, but radiated his positive energy in support of the couple from Atlanta.
