Crews from fire departments in Cayuga, Onondaga, Oswego and Wayne counties fought a garage fire that eventually spread to another garage and a home in the village of Cato Friday afternoon.
According to Cayuga County 911 dispatchers, the fire was reported at a garage at 2527 West Mechanic St. around 2:17 p.m. About 15 minutes later, the fire had reportedly spread to a neighboring garage and home, according to dispatchers. Firefighters reported "heavy smoke" and flames coming from the structures. No one was injured.
The fire was reported out in all three structures about an hour later, at 3:18 p.m., according to dispatchers. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours.
Crews from Cato, Ira, Conquest, Weedsport, Port Byron, Victory, Aurelius, Jordan, Red Creek, Hannibal, Lysander, Plainville and Baldwinsville fire departments responded to the call. Cayuga County Emergency Management, the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, Cimvac Ambulance and Fair Haven Village Ambulance were also called to the scene.
