Gallery: How coronavirus has changed the way we grieve in Cayuga County

Living with the coronavirus pandemic in Cayuga County: Vincent C. LaPorta Jr., of Auburn, was alone when he passed away in the hospital on April 4. He died of non-COVID-related health issues. He was 60. His children, who live in Florida, and his siblings, from Auburn, could not be with him due to the pandemic social distancing and no-visitor guidelines that are in place. Funeral homes and cemeteries are restricted to gatherings of 10 or less with social distancing rules in place, making the grieving process that much more stressful. No handshakes, no hugs, no kisses. Coming this Sunday in The Citizen and auburnpub.com will be a story about how families cope with the loss of a loved one during the pandemic.
