Helicopters were requested to provide transport after a two-car crash Saturday night in Fleming that was reported to have caused serious injuries.
First responders initially reported that two or three people were trapped in the wreckage. Three ambulances were requested as well as a helicopter for emergency transportation.
The crash was reported at about 9:33 p.m. at the intersection of Route 34 and Fleming Scipio Townline Road
Volunteers from the Fleming, Scipio and Owasco fire departments were called to bring rescue tools the scene to help get the victims out of the vehicles, and numerous emergency medical professionals were dispatched to render aid.
Rescuers later radioed that two patients appeared to be in critical condition, and plans were being made to prepare for two helicopters to land near the crash site. At about 10 p.m., a third helicopter was requested to be dispatched to the scene.
One person was taken by helicopter from the scene just before 10:30 p.m., and a second was preparing to land. Rescuers reported that a third patient was going to be taken by ambulance, and so the third helicopter was canceled.
