Cayuga Media, publisher of The Citizen and auburnpub.com, has made a change in top management.
Rick Emanuel, a former publisher at the company, started Monday to oversee the Auburn-based media company. He replaces Mike Rifanburg, who had served as publisher for the past four years.
Emanuel is also publisher of the Post-Star in Glens Falls. Both companies are owned by Davenport, Iowa-based Lee Enterprises.
In his role, Emanuel will split his time between the two upstate New York communities while a search is conducted for a permanent publisher in Auburn.
Emanuel served as publisher at The Citizen for 10 years. In 2008, he became publisher with a sister paper in Glens Falls. During his time in Auburn, he spent considerable time volunteering with organizations such as United Way of Cayuga County, Matthew House, the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, Auburn Memorial Hospital and the Cayuga Community College Foundation.
Emanuel oversaw The Citizen's shift from an afternoon to a morning publication in 2008 and the creation of the Skaneateles Journal, a weekly newspaper, in 2006.
Rifanburg became The Citizen's publisher in 2009 after working under Emanuel as advertising director.
