GENOA — It was Mark Gallup's second week on the job driving a tractor-trailer carrying liquid manure for Sunnyside Farms in Scipio Center.

Gallup, 58, of Whitesboro, a veteran driver for over 20 years, crossed Route 34 traveling eastbound on Route 90 in Genoa at about 1:45 p.m. when his truck caught the soft shoulder, forcing it into a four-foot ditch and rolling it over. Gallup was able to escape the crushed cab through the passenger side window with no injuries.

Area farmers arrived on the scene within minutes and began to work to stop the spilling manure from making its way to a nearby waterway. Genoa highway workers used bulldozers to fill the ditch to stem the flow.
