Winter storm watch

The area in blue shows the winter storm watch for an area that includes Cayuga, Onondaga and Seneca counties from Tuesday morning through Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch starting Tuesday for a large area of upstate New York that includes Cayuga, Onondaga and Seneca counties. 

A heavy mixed precipitation, with six to 12 inches of snow and a 10th of an inch of ice, is expected to accumulate from Tuesday morning to Wednesday evening.

The most accumulation of snow is expected late Tuesday morning through the afternoon.  Following the snow, the National Weather Service is expecting sleet and freezing rain until early Wednesday morning, when snow will return. 

Traveling could be difficult with hazardous conditions and winds as high as 45 mph during morning and evening commutes Tuesday. The National Weather Service is advising preparations at home and with vehicles.
