William Bleyle, left, is sworn in by Onondaga County Sheriff Eugene Conway.

William Bleyle, a veteran of the Manlius Police Department, was appointed chief correction deputy of the Onondaga County Jail in Jamesville on Wednesday.

Bleyle previously served nine years as the commissioner of the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Communications and had a 32-year career as an officer at the MPD, according to an Onondaga County Sheriff's Office press release.

The emergency communications center that Bleyle headed provides call taking, dispatch and support services for 88 public safety agencies. The correction department that Bleyle will manage includes 516 beds directly supervised by approximately 170 staff members.

Bleyle graduated from Syracuse University and the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and has an appointment to the Interoperable and Emergency Communications Board, a state agency that develops emergency communication policies.
