Pawn King

A new rent-to-own business will open in the downtown Auburn storefront recently vacated by Pawn King.

Quality Rental Purchase and Sales will open at 39 Genesee St. in about a week to 10 days, said Joseph Catalfano, who owns both the building and the business.

Catalfano, who also operates J&J Limousine Service out of the building, said he's been looking to return to the rent-to-own business since 2012. That's the year he sold Quality Rentals, which operated at the former Nolan's Shoes building since 2006. He opened the business on Owasco Street in 1998, and prior to that, worked for another rent-to-own business since 1984, he said.

Quality Rental Purchase and Sales will be located a few blocks down Genesee Street from fellow rent-to-own business Rent-A-Center, which also has a location in Auburn Plaza on Grant Avenue.

"I've always felt there's a good need for this business," Catalfano said.

His new business will carry appliances, furniture, electronics like televisions and computers, and more, he said. As a private company, however, he can also order anything customers ask for. They will be able to rent inventory, rent it until they own it, or buy it outright. Prices will be "very competitive," Catalfano added.

"We would like to have everyone come down and see us when we're open," Catalfano said.
